The foundation
Everything worthwhile starts here. My wife Mary is the anchor of our family — the kind of partner who makes every version of life better. Together we're raising four children with a clear and deliberate intention: that they leave our home confident, capable, independent, curious, and motivated to make a positive impact on the people and communities around them.
Moving from Washington to Florida opened a new chapter for our family — more sun, more outdoor time, more active living. But the Pacific Northwest still calls us back for mountain hikes and time on the lakes, and those trips feel even more special for the distance.
My 15-year-old son and I have found our own rhythm together. He's closing the gap on me in the weight room — and he'll win that competition soon. We're working toward his driver's license and his pilot's license, two milestones that mean something different when you've watched someone build independence his whole life — this kid has always charted his own course. He's also been taking college courses since 8th grade, which probably explains why he stopped asking me for homework help a while ago. He's got his eyes set on both the road and the sky. These are the moments I hold onto.
His 17-year-old sister didn't wait for permission to figure out the world either — she launched her own apparel brand, built a following as an influencer, and has been taking college courses since 9th grade. I'm not sure where she finds the hours. Every once in a while she lets her dad make a cameo on her channel, which I treat as a very big deal and she tolerates with grace. That entrepreneurial fire is entirely hers — I'm just along for the ride and grateful for the occasional guest spot.
The older two have written their own chapters entirely. One recently got engaged — a moment that has a way of making you realize how fast it all goes — and is well into a corporate career she's built with real intention. The other recently purchased a business and is already growing it well past what the founder imagined possible. Through all of it, we remain a close and tightly knit family — each of our children a cherished part of it, and watching them each thrive in their own unique way brings us great joy.
The body & the discipline
A pre-diabetic diagnosis a few years ago was a turning point. I could have drifted — instead, I chose to engage. Through a combination of 16:8 intermittent fasting, a disciplined diet, and a training regimen that includes swimming, biking, running, HIIT, and weightlifting, I reversed the diagnosis. That experience permanently changed how I think about the body: it responds to what you give it, and it will surprise you when you commit.
Living in Florida has been a genuine accelerator for this. The climate, the outdoors, the culture of staying active — it suits me. And when we head back to Washington, the mountains and lakes bring a different kind of physical joy that I never take for granted.
Above the clouds
Growing up with a father in the Air Force gave me an early and lasting appreciation for aviation. When the FAA reopened private airspace after September 11th, I drove straight to my local airport and signed up for flight lessons. Two months later I had my Private Pilot Certificate — one of the most meaningful things I've ever earned.
Most of my early flying was in the Pacific Northwest. Today it's primarily across the Southeast, with some significant cross-country routes behind me. I enjoy the community of pilots as much as the flying itself — whether you're brand new to the left seat or have thousands of hours, there's always something worth sharing.
The profession
This is a personal site — a place to share who I am beyond what I do for work. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and Marketing from the University of Washington's Michael G. Foster School of Business, which set the foundation for a career I'm proud of.
